My Fuckin White Wall
A pile of Chinese collectivism before 2000 Crepe paper 40 x 60 inches 2017     I was born in 1995. In my childhood memory, China before 2000 was the living example of the term "collectivism". Nowadays, with urbanization and advanced technology, individualism rises inevitably. However, people a decade ago were always bond together as a "family", even they were just co-workers, or neighbors. Children were educated with the idea "sense of group honor". There was even a saying in Chinese, "shoot the bird which takes the lead", to tell people never become unconventional, but to live normally, to fit in. These ideologies formed together and made us like the paper chain, strong, but colorless. The paper chain happened to be the art form we used to make only when we were kids. Therefore, I made over hundreds of them, and abandoned them in my studio's corner, in a pile so they won't take too much space.
An artist's struggle of being an artist Pastel, wood, paper, roller on panel 48 x 48 inches 2017     In this piece, I create a story of an artist, who is ambitious and passionate about this world and attempts to use art to change the world. He wrote several projects on his panel with intricate thought process and deep social analysis. Yet the deeper he got, the more he realized that art can do nothing in terms of changing the world substantially. He wiped and wiped his panel again, eventually decided to leave it as his art storage surface.

A post industrial period materialist's materialized collection of information in its 2nd generation iPhone 3G, Steel plaque 12x6 inches 2017     This piece is a satire of a social phenomenon, which people are so drawn into professional vocabularies and complex phrases nowadays, especially in China. People would incorporate tons of complicated terminologies and grammar to express a simple idea in order to sound professional. The audiences would also worship these type of expressions, even many of them didn't understand the content at all. This piece is an extreme take on of this phenomenon by using four lines title to describe an iPhone in order to deliver a strong contrast. However, ironically, this title does described the object precisely and vividly, much better than its original name.
